Dan is correct - I do not have much time on the computer this week.

The virus and receptor interaction is not a static thing. It is in equilibrium. This is a cycle and an inhibitor of binding would interrupt that cycle.

I am not familiar with ZIA values but from a 10 second glance it appears to stand for Zinc Ion Availability.

I think since the data from the abstract posted by Dan showed an increased effect with increased dosage that the ZIA argument is fallacious.

Also, zincum gluconium is zinc gluconate, a complex of zinc ion and gluconate base from gluconic acid. You can look the structure up in a CRC manual and you will find a hexose backbone.

The stuff about immunosuppression is fallacious and certainly is not applicable to Zicam. While Zicam contains a specific measurable amount of zinc ion, Zicam contains less than the RDA for zinc. A complete explanation is at gumminvestors.com in the Q&A section. It includes a dosage calculation.
