GoToNet is having some problems this morning.

The trouble with making SI so useful is that people USE it <gg>.

Interesting finds, Will. Wow, Nakamura doesn't believe in keeping secrets! I bet the folks at Nichia are having conniptions <g>. But you can't argue with Nakamura's abilities.

I'll bet those sure are expensive GaN wafers. I guess not much is used in each laser? We should be on the lookout for the (public, US) company that can finally grow wafers of device quality GaN inexpensively (if there is one).

I don't think Cree is in trouble though. Only diamond beats SiC in thermal conductivity. Although I don't know what the value is for GaN. Also the lattice mismatch between GaN and SiC is only 3%. However, as you have pointed out, Cree has to use buffers.

I'll see if I can get a copy of the paper. Did you download it or do you have access to a tech library? I am a member of MRS but I don't get the journal.
