NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 8, 1999--WINSTAR COMMUNICATIONS, INC. (Nasdaq:WCII) today announced it is offering Web-based television-quality videoconference services to its customers as part of a reseller partners program with LUCENT TECHNOLOGIES (NYSE:LU). Winstar is one of the first communications companies to offer this new application to its customers. The videoconferencing offering--known as Lucent Collaborative Video (LCV)--brings conferencing and application sharing to the desktop, allowing users to easily and cost-effectively interact with one another over the Internet. LCV offers businesses many conferencing options, including full collaboration sessions of up to 20 people per call, a lecture hall for up to 100 people per call or a video broadcast that can be sent to an unlimited number of desktops. "LCV is another example of how Winstar is making its broadband network more useful to customers," said Rick Calder, chief marketing officer for Winstar. "By using low-cost, Web-based applications such as LCV, our medium- and small-sized business customers can lower operating costs and increase productivity. Winstar benefits by driving more traffic onto its network as a result of bandwidth-intensive applications." "Winstar brings several important elements to the partner program: its high-speed broadband network, an extensive nationwide customer base and a consultative approach to serving customers," said Bryan Katz, general manager of IP Collaboration at Lucent Technologies. "This combination of assets and skills will help speed the adoption of the Lucent Collaborative Video solution."
