Amy,

Re"short cut designing"

I think you may have it bassackwards.

The reason that Intel is suffering is due to:

1. DESIGN screwups with RDRAM.
2. DESIGN screwups with Camino MB's.
3. DESIGN screwups with Coppermine - which delayed parts by 4 months.

In fact IBM as of last week had NOT shipped a single COPPERMINE part due to qual issues.

In fact most vendors are promising Coppermine/RDRAM parts for Jan 2000 if you order them now.

Clearly Intel took SHORTCUTS on the latest coppermine introduction. It has been well documented that they were so desperate to launch parts that they launched - WITH NO vendors ready to ship.

A FAR FAR cry from the Katmai launch of earlier this year when even tier 2 vendors were selling parts well before the official launch.

The FACTS are that coppermine has been delayed due to Intel DESIGN and DELIVERY problems.

And yet you keep talking about ATHLON as being delayed and unmanufacturable etc and assuming that everything is going well at Intel. The FACTS are pretty clear on who has taken short cuts recently and paid the price.

regards,

Kash Johal
