Clues from small caps

Don't know if anyone else has noticed but the Russell 2000 has been very strong of late. Rallied the last few minutes today as most other indexes were getting hit and closed at the high of the day. Just made a new 1999 high, but still about 6% below the 1998 peak.

Two points:

This kind of small cap action has almost always signalled significant further short-term gains in the RUT.

But more interesting perhaps is that brief periods of strong small cap outperformace usually occur shortly before the overall market begins to tank. Perhaps small caps are the last group speculators buy after everything else has been ramped to the limit

Another straw in the wind.
