Speaking of New Year's, Charles, there is one major problem many people around the world will face because of the millennium: a total unavailability of certain years and vintages of some champagnes (??sp??). A number of people in the fine dining industry (or whatever it is considered) refer to this as, "The millennium problem."

I am not kidding. I heard this on some weekly radio cooking show out of CT Sunday while running an errand. Some of the names no longer available-at any price--appear to have been mentioned before I tuned in. For people unwilling to settle for second (or third)rate names, basically champagne equivalents of Ripple, the names of some substitute fine wines were mentioned along with the warning that even these could be gone, soon.

So, unless you are like me and will be more than happy with something like Peach Snapple, its time to log off SI and run to the liquor store.
