4/18/97 Vans Stock To Come Under New SEC Order Rules April 28
>VANS

SANTA FE SPRINGS, Calif. (Dow Jones)--Vans Inc. (VANS) said its
stock will be phased in effective April 28, under the Securities
and Exchange Commission's new order handling rules which govern
the display of limit orders and quotes.
In a press release Friday, Vans said its board has been
''concerned'' about the spread between the bid and asked quotes
for its stock and about ''possible abuses of SOES trading.''
Vans said it is ''hopeful the system will rectify'' potential
problems,
The new rules will apply to 200 Nasdaq stocks as of April 28,
Vans said. The new rules require over-the-counter market makers
and specialists publicly display certain customer limit orders.
The SEC also will phase in compliance with new rules that
require OTC market makers and specialists to publicly
disseminate the best prices that they enter into an electronic
communications network.
Vans Inc. is a manufacturer, wholesaler and retailer of
footwear and apparel.
