Doc: Correct diagnosis. MSFT is a software company. They are not a box maker. They will turn their software expertise in the direction of wherever they see the fastest growth. They may not be the first into the fray but they will be the one standing in the end. Software will be paramount in the digital age. Communications are just now going end to end digitally. TV is going digital. Everything will be digital as analog is moved out of the mainstream . MSFT will be there to make the digits useful and to enhance the use of the digital signal. The ERICY agreement the ATT agreement and other similar ventures are strategic moves which will bear fruit . The beauty of MSFT is that they have the staying power to take these strategic gambles and make them pay off. In the meantime they will deal with the DOJ to the greatest advantage of the shareholder as Mr. Gates has the most to lose or gain as the largest stock owner. Why was MSFT down today ? Are the weasels afraid that MSFT has too strong and DOJ has too weak a case for Gates to make a deal? In the meanwhile the value of this great juggernaut keeps being stored up like a charge in a capacitor. Watch out when it discharges. JFD
