The reason for shorting is to make money on a stock that is going down just as those make money on undervalued stocks that have gone up.
it is NOT Un American as some misguided individuals seem to think and is as hard to do as it is to go long.
If it makes you feel any better, most people wouldn't touch ifmx with a 10 foot pole either way at the moment.
