Re: McCaw and IRIDQ. Just speculating on the true intentions, but if you just laid out hundreds of millions for ICO and then had the opportunity in the DD process to learn all the minute details about a main competititor, you'd be nuts not to look up the skirt. This thread has done an excellent job in the past detailing the design and technical problems of Iridium, and in fact concluded that the ICO design made a whole lot more sense. So why, for the sake of argument, would you pay a whole lot of real money to marry into IRID when you get a one-night stand (and all the "skin" you care to view) with the old hag for free? Just speculating about McCaw, but he's nobody's dummy when it comes to the $$. Is there a way that McCaw could pluck some key assets from IRID that could be both turned into real revenue in short order and somehow later melded into a re-incarnated ICO? If yes, there's a rationale. If no, McCaw/ICO would be better off if IRID liquidated. But he'd be nuts not to take a long, hard look. Thoughts?
Mostly lurking, have my doubts about market size and means to market, but still holding long on G*. (Like that huge 15MM or so share short position overhanging, as well as the recent ability to snag another $150MM in funding, albeit dilutive, as current reasons not to give up on this one yet. If McCaw passes on IRID, G* could pop a bit, and if G* actually signs up decent #'s of paying subscribers in the next 120 days, the shorts should flee.) |
