I agree it's baffling. And I don't think it could have been based on the results, even if they were known. First of all, you have to ask yourself how a rumor could appear 15 minutes before the close. Isn't the timing a bit suspicious? (Ignoring the fact results aren't due until tomorrow.) And secondly, you have to wonder why there wasn't a slow build-up of weakness. If news leaked, word would spread slowly and the sell-off would build up over several hours.

This was abrupt and relentless once the stop-losses started triggering.

Tomorrow will be interesting, to put it mildly.
