MikeM X-windows (aka X11) in a de facto standard in the Unix world. Pretty much like MS-Windows in the, well, MS-Windows enabled PC world. I am not familiar with any X-window thin client solution. Unless you are referring to X-terms. Those died because a PC emulating an X-term became cheaper than an X-term itself. Also, there is only so much real estate on a desk. In the X-window environment, there is an X server and an X client communicating over a virtual connection. The language they use to communicate is the Xwindow protocol. It is pretty compact and definitely not a bandwidth hog. It is easy enough to translate this language into others such as MS-Windows or NeWS or whatever. Probably a semester's worth of effort. ICA is a protocol converter. It is optimized for MS. It will be worthwhile to see how the handhelds market unfolds. Citrix seems to be poised to benefit whenever someone wants to run the app on a big box someplace else but designate the handheld as the display. Where would you place Citrix in its lifecycle ? -Dinesh
