This info is taken out of Yale Hirsh's book "Don't Sell Stock on Monday". Since I am reading old charts my actual numbers may be off a little but look at the larger concept for the idea. I stongly suggest you get a copy and read the chapter on the ten year pattern. The numbers below represent the dow jones average 1907 june 78 december 60 1917 june 96 december 75 1927 june 165 december 201 a winner 1937 june 170 december 120 1947 june 177 december 181 a winner 1957 june 505 december 440 1967 june 860 december 905 a winner 1977 june 925 december 840 1987 june 2450 december 1950 Looking at the S&P 500 in the 7th year of the decade in the last 11 decades there have been 8 loosers and 3 winners. Looking at the 6th year of the same decades there have been 8 winners and 3 loosers. Looking at the 8th year of the same decades there are 9 winners and 2 loosers. This information can be found on page 138 of the 1997 Traders Almanac by Yale Hirsh.
