It normally takes a few weeks for the shares to be delivered in certificate form. During the last registration drive, I registered mine and the process was relatively painless. My broker was somewhat concerned that I was taking my money elsewhere, but once I reassured her, there was no problem. There may be a small charge, but I didn't have one. My broker would also let me trade the shares if I changed my mind and decided to sell before the certificates arrived, YMMV.
If there is to be another registration drive, it would be a good idea to time it with the lfno opening or when financials are released in order to have the maximum effect. Also, most of the planning was done last time in this forum, and it is very likely that if the MMs are short, they are reading these articles. Setting it up via e-mail would be a good idea, with no disclosure of the total number of shares involved. The more they know, the easier it is for them to plan their counter-move.
