Bob, this company is a monster...I find it very interesting. Everything from Alcatel submarine (recently added 2 ships to the fleet for a total of 7) that lays undersea cable, to Alcatel space and just about everything inbetween. Not sure the status of the skybridge project, I'll have to follow up on this. This company does it all and will ultimately command equivalent multiples to CSCO and LU IMO. The company has been recovering from a credibility issue created about a year ago now, and I suspect it'll be a dead issue come earings on FEB 3rd, which are expected to be a blockbuster. US analyst and investors are just discovering this sleeping giant.
ALA also owns a decent stake in Thompson Multimedia, along with MSFT, NEC, and Hughes Electronics. Also still own 25% of largescale engineering firm ALS, but suspect that'll go up for sale next year. They are in the process of unloading their Framatome (sp) holdings, something the government wouldn't let them do till recently. Several analysts have commented Europe is a good couple years behind the US...just another potential feather in their cap.
All just a brief summary, but I really like this company. One of my favorites, and I actually hold the stock as part of my core holdings...something I don't do unless I'm really confident. Looking for approximate double by year-end '00.
