Arthur Andersen Joins Elite Group of Wireless Industry Leaders

Business Editors & Health Writers

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 9, 1999--

Arthur Andersen becomes the first Big 5 member of the
Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) Forum

Arthur Andersen can now provide greater value to its wireless
clients as an associate member of the Wireless Application Protocol
(WAP) Forum. The firm recently joined this group of industry leaders
who collectively support the protocol that empowers individuals with
wireless devices to easily access and interact with information and
services over existing wireless networks.
The creation of the WAP Forum in 1997 was a landmark event for
the wireless industry. This forum was launched by Ericsson, Motorola,
Nokia and Phone.com (formerly Unwired Planet) to develop worldwide
standards for wireless Internet access.
"This is the first time in the history of wireless communications
that all three of the world's major centers of technological
innovation - Europe, the United States and Asia - have come together
to form a standard in the very nascent stages of technological
development," says Vivek Tulja, a director with Arthur Andersen
specializing in wireless communications.
The WAP Forum has over 20/ members consisting of network
equipment providers, network operators and software vendors. As the
only Big 5 firm currently a member of the forum, Arthur Andersen
continues to demonstrate its commitment to the wireless industry and
create partnerships with its clients.
"WAP represents a tremendous growth opportunity for carriers
around the world. Membership allows us to gain insight into the
industry issues and the challenges that our clients face every day in
the new economy," says Tulja.
Arthur Andersen's vision is to be the partner for success in the
new economy. The firm helps clients find new ways to create, manage
and measure value in the rapidly changing global economy. With
world-class skills in assurance, tax, consulting and corporate
finance, Arthur Andersen has more than 72,000 people in over 80
countries who are united by a single worldwide operating structure
that fosters inventiveness, knowledge sharing and a focus on client
success. Since its beginning in 1913, Arthur Andersen has realized 86
years of uninterrupted growth, with 1999 revenues over $7 billion.
Arthur Andersen is a business unit of Andersen Worldwide.
