Are you aware that the Greenspan has stated publicly several times that the fed would act swiftly and immediately to stop any sharp market correction?

If the market has no effect on the "real economy" then why would they do that? If the market went to zero tomorrow, do you doubt for a second that you'd see soup lines on every corner, ala 1929?

Are you aware that the "Fed" is a privately owned consortium of member banks, and not in any way an arm of the government?

Looking after market speculation which has no discrenible effect on the real economy is outside the Fed's charter. That should answer your question.
