Hi Mani:

From what I can glean in the retail channel, INTc needs to revamp the PIII. The "here and now" Athlon is grabbing market share rapidly.

This latest pronouncement by Intel has a familiar ring to it, that being a "some-time-in-the-future" enhancement to the PIII...Who knows what enhancements (but I'm fairly certain they'll be at least equally as significant and "available" in the retail channel) the Athlon will have by then?

Mani, with these ever more frequent announcements by Intel, but still not much presence in the retail channel, I'm reminded of the old adage: "A bird in habd is worth two in the tree".

Forgive me if I sound cocky, but since October, there has been a lot of promises by Intel but not much in the way of delivery. Contrarily, AMD has moved from 600MHz to 750MHz, and my sense seamlessly and without significant incremental costs.

I learned a long time ago to go by what I could touch, see and test. At the moment, I can touch, see and test a 700 MHz Athlon. I have not been successful in doing so with the promised competitor.

Having said all that...Of course the wildcard is that INTC hits the homerun...I guess I'm just wrapped up in the grand slam delivered by the Athlon over the past 6 months! I'll worry about INTC's homerun, when and if they can deliver it...I wouldn't count on that happenning though if the past 6 months are any kind of an indicator!
