OT and maybe a tad long....lets talk PPI.

I find myself working with many businesses in my line of work and I keep hearing the same thing, "We have no pricing power." Many times this is followed up by saying that the wholesalers themselves have not passed on a price increase in a long time. Even in cases where some increases have occured the business owners have stated that they don't feel like the increase can be passed on to the consumer. I find myself asking the owner "why." In most cases the common theme has been either the internet or just plain fierce competition. It seems that times have changed from the free wheeling 80's and early 90's where consumers just paid what was quoted, listed etc. Now even business to business relationships can be broken off over a dime. This is vastly different from years past where people did business with friends or other businesses because of a long standing relationship. To be short....times are changing which is one reason that I believe we will see good PPI numbers if not tomorrow in the very near future. In a way it's sad that Ma and Pa business owners who have served their communities for years by paying taxes and charitable contributions get run out of business over a couple dollars. That's not to say consumers should over-pay but rather to point out that in many cases it's better to buy from people who serve our local needs than buy from some warehouse located in Nevada. In any event, it would seem to me that the PPI numbers for some of the reasons listed above and many more should be held in check.

Just My Opinion
