Amy - Re: "I underestimated how long it could take IA-64 to roll out to a wide base. I had been thinking it would start having an impact in 2001. "

The financial impact will become evident in 2001 - just the last half.

Remember - if (and a VERY BIG IF) Intel continues to grow on all fronts between now and 2001, the larger revenue and earnings base will make the IA/64 sales even HARDER to impact in a positive direction.

But, as these IA64 volumes ramp - including the McKinley version - they will indeed boost the financials.

What should be EVIDENT before that time is the market acceptance - and hence PERCEPTION - of the success (or failure !!!) of the IA 64 program.

If initial production systems do indeed ship in late 2000 and their software and hardware performance and reliability meet the needs of enterprise customers, that fact should start to ripple through even the DENSE FINANCIAL analysts - and cause a positive impact on Intel's stock price - in advance of the actual volume ramp of systems in H2 2001.

Let's hope that Intel's "Exceeded IA64 Expectations" also results in exceeding their Customer's Expectations !

Paul
