PVSW ..... Linux is an operating system, akin to Windows, Windows 95, Windows NT .... applications run on an operating system ..... applications are programs .....
PVSW is enabling their applications to run on Linux .... so, yes, there is a correlation, however, all applications will eventually run on Linux, most application vendors have either released Linux versions or are working on them ....
A little background, Linux is "free" software .... developed by a loose organization of programmers around the world .... it can be downloaded on the net ... the advantage to programmers is that MSFT does not dictate how and what they can do .... programmers hate MSFT passionately ..... so most will favor any movement to Linux going forward. SUNW is a big backer of Linux as they see it as a dagger in the heart of hated MSFT .... and SUNW would like to sell more and more servers with Linux OS installed .... DELL also announced this week that they will preinstall RHAT's Linux on their servers ....
LINUX has a great future growth wise .... however, the valuations of LINUX stocks has gotten out of hand .... i.e. CORL, PERL, etc ..... |
