The old Bircher slogan "Joe McCarthy was Right!" has indeed proved to be prescient. KGB files that were revealed after 1989 proved that the State Dept. was riddled with Soviet agents. The book Special Tasks by Pavel Sudoplatov vividly illustrates that. Interestingly, after the initial open attitude with their files, they are now under wraps again. The link you posted is dated, but thanks for telling me more about Stone than I previously knew. My understanding was that he worked for the NY Times as a reporter, but I'm not positive of that. I know he at least sent them dispatches.
