Egg Nog

Serves: 12
Work Time: 20 minutes
Total Time: 2 hours 20 minutes

12 eggs, separated
1/2 cup plus 4 tablespoons sugar, divided use
3/4 cup whiskey
1 pint heavy whipping cream
In a large bowl, beat egg yolks and 1/2 cup sugar until thick and lemon colored. Add liquor slowly, beating constantly. Beat egg whites until foamy. Add remaining sugar and beat until stiff, but not too dry. Fold egg white mixture into yolk mixture. Whip cream and fold into mixture. Refrigerate at least 1 hour before serving and keep thoroughly chilled, set in a bowl of ice, when serving.
NOTE

This traditional Christmas beverage is particularly appealing when served in a decorative punch bowl with a ladle.
