Manufacturing

Kopin's display manufactory facility is located in Westborough, Massachusetts (pictured at right). The whole process (shown below) starts and ends in its 75,000 sq.ft manufacturing site.

United Microelectronic Corporation (UMC), Taiwan, one of the largest integrated circuit foundries in the world, and is Kopin's CMOS fabrication partner.

1 Start with SOI Wafers
2 Fabricate CMOS Integrated Circuits
3 Liftoff Circuits from Silicon Substrate...
4 Transfer Substrate to Glass
5 Add 2nd Glass & Break into Individual Displays
6 Fill with LC, Bond, Package & Test

[cartoon depicts steps 1-6]

Another of Kopin's manufacturing partners, Unipac Optoelectronics in Taiwan, assembles and packages CyberDisplay as a second source to meet the ever rising worldwide demand.

Just archiving this for reference.

The critical (so-called proprietary) technology that enables the transmissive microdisplay is in steps 1 and 3. The other steps are relatively straightforward.

Two manufacturing partners, UMC and Unipac, are disclosed by name here. Kopin's reliance on these particular "third parties" for manufacturing and packaging is also mentioned in the RISK FACTORS section of their recent Prospectus.
