Wow, I guess I've been busier than I thought with Shuttle and Hubble trouble. I have not looked at this thread in a couple of weeks!

Flash Back:

After the long Thanks Giving holidays in 1995, my eyes fell on this little co. icot. And on the message boards I
saw JW's write up on ADSL. I did little research, not on ADSL but on JW and signed on to ICOT.

There were strange personalities that we faced but one stood there like a poll and held this forum in order. And that was JW.

Pat's research and others interesting inputs kept this thread alive ...even till now.

Since then every thanks giving sunday, I think about AMTX.
I learnt a lot about Comm. here than in my engineering school -g-.

Those were the interesting times.

Thanks to y'all.

Regds
Let's keep em all.

Thanks for your post x70sxn, it is heartwarming to know that even to this day, that and my steadfast stance in providing informative and factual information on DSL and DMT, had an impact on some.

Flashback:

Yes we did have some interesting characters on this thread back in those thrilling days of yesteryear.

Actually I joined SI on Christmas Day 1995, and found the Amati Thread 3 days later, the day it was started. I had always done research on emerging technologies, the hard way, buying and reading magazines. Then someone invented the Web Browser Mosaic and opened the world of research to my fingertips.

It took only moments to understand the potential for ADSL. The dilemma was DMT and CAP, and thanks to some research and finding Peter Chows small piece on DMT, I was able to make an informed decision on which Line Code to choose.

For me it was bluntly obvious the advantages of DMT over CAP immediately.

Lesson Learned:

No matter how much great information a Stock thread contains, there is no substitute for doing your own Due Diligence.

It took time and persistence to continue doing Research and posting factual information in posts and debates with the Multiple Heads that infested the Amati thread. Though it was a learning experience that money can not buy.

One of the valuable traits I ascertained and honed during those times, was the ability to debate an issue in the written word and create a post that can ensure my information is thoroughly understood and if need be, make the person I'm debating look like he just stepped off the Turnip Truck. It seems every Stock thread has it bashers and putting those skills to use, I can usually post in a manner that reduces the bashers credibility to the point he just moves on. Though none that I had encountered, have been harder to get rid of than those I encountered on the Amati Thread. So those I've encountered in the years since, seem like child's play.

My thoughts drift back to those early days each Christmas, so as we approach that time of the year again and are embarking on a New Millennium, I'd like to thank all those who helped make this thread the best of the best.

You know who you are, and I must give special thanks to PAT, for without whom I might have never continued doing DSL research. Having a partner to share exciting and unbelievable tidbits of DSL information with via Email, in days when there was only an thimble full of information about ADSL the Net, brought great pleasure to the hunt. Though I may have fought the battles, PAT's Posts were 2:1 for each of mine.

I guess that you (x70sxn) were one of the lurkers? Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I guess one of the worst traits acquired are these long winded posts >G<.

Happy Holidays to All

Regards,
JW@KSC ;^)
