Some Info on DRESDEN Capacity.

I was talking to someone who has spent some time in Fab 30 and got the lowdown on AMD's capacity.

It appears that they currently have 6 steppers installed.

They aim to double this over the next 6 months.

Steppers usually are the bottleneck tools in a well designed fab since lithography contributes 30% to the total equipment cost, but this may not be the case in a fab undergoing expansion. But let's assume they are.

Say these steppers have a throughput of 80 wafers per hour.

At an Overall Equipment Efficiency of 40%, this gives us 32 wafers per hour.

Thus we have

32 wfrs x 6 steppers x 168 hrs = 32k alignments per week

With a 26 mask process (anyone got firmer data?) this gives a total wafer output of 1230 wafers per week.

Many of these will be engineering runs of course, but that is indicative of the overall capacity.

(Note that I don't know if all the steppers are qualified at this stage).

Regards,

Shane

PS Also, a couple of months ago I got word that AMD did have a copper contamination 'event', but got no sense of the magnitude.
