AMQT - LINUX play everyone forgot about;
WILLOW GROVE, Pa., Aug. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- AmeriQuest Technologies
(OTC Bulletin Board: AMQT) announced today that it has experienced
extraordinary growth in sales for SCO products to its Value-Added-Reseller
(VAR) and Systems Integrator (SI) customers over its last three fiscal 1999
quarters. In two of those quarters, its sales of SCO products virtually
doubled from the same quarters in its fiscal year 1998; in one quarter, 1999
sales more than tripled from the same quarter in 1998. AmeriQuest executives
attributed much of the dramatic growth to several factors, including the
increased media coverage of Linux, the growth in awareness of and demand for
UNIX products overall as a result, and the strength of AmeriQuest's
relationship with SCO.
"With ownership of 41% of the total UNIX marketplace, and 80% of the
market for UNIX on Intel platforms, SCO is clearly delivering the most widely
accepted and scalable UNIX," said Alex Kramer, president of AmeriQuest. "Our
VAR and SI customers -- especially those who have vertical market software
applications -- want an extremely stable platform on which to build, which SCO
provides. In addition, the highly public debate over Linux vs. Windows(R) NT
may also be rapidly expanding the overall market opportunities for UNIX, and I
think SCO and we are definitely sharing the benefits resulting from that
expanded market."
"I signed the first deal with SCO for our company -- then Robec -- in
1985, and they've been an extremely competent, responsive and valuable partner
to us over the years. Much of the success we're seeing today with their UNIX
offerings is a result of that close working relationship, and the enormous
experience our people have gained working with SCO and its products. And
while Linux and NT have received a great deal of attention in the press, I
think all the attention to the relative merits of each has also caused more
people to recognize today's SCO's UNIX as a better OS for their needs now and
in the future than either the current Linux or NT."
At the SCO Forum in Santa Cruz, CA., August 15-20, 1999, AmeriQuest will
be showing a clustered failover solution it is already marketing to its
customers using SCO UnixWare 7 Reliant HA 1.1 running on Unisys(R) servers.
"This is a perfect example of how we use SCO products to meet a very real need
for our customers," said Mr. Kramer. "They've produced great software that
allows us to provide a very cost-effective alternative to much more expensive
fault-tolerant systems for customers who need high-availability functionality
for databases, web servers and other critical applications."
AmeriQuest distributes information technology expertise, services, and
products to VARs and Systems Integrators. Its expertise in UNIX, NT, network
engineering, telephony, and enterprise databases, plus logistic and financial
services, enable it to deliver all or part of the total solution for their
customers, as their "silent partner."
