Doug, Thanks for starting a discussion on this important subject. It seems to me that it would be helpful to initially establish a working definition of a market maker for the purposes of this thread. Just what is a market maker?

Also, what, if any, credentials are required to function as a market maker? I'm sure there are others such as myself who know little about these people.
