re: the patent dispute. I'm a layman and I haven't seen the BD complaint so this message may be way off base and completely wrong, but I think the dispute involve BD patent #5,591,645, filed on 4-20-93. Quidel has a patent, #4,493,522, filed on 8-10-88, which I suspect is also involved. It's difficult for me to analyze as a layman, but it doesn't look like it is as "cut and dried" as I'm sure BD wishes it was. Quidel's patent looks like its right on point for its lateral flow one step assays, especially involving whole blood samples, but unfortunately only summaries of the patent is given. I probably couldn't understand it anyway. Check out patents.cnidr.org
