I have a hard time believing that the NYSE and NASD actually asked the SEC for this. Its more like the SEC asked them! After all, this will undoubtedly reduce retail order flow and hurt the online brokers over the long term. If I were Rich Grasso, I would not be happy. Profits are at stake...He should be lobbying to reduce the margin requirement to $1,000 and allow 10-1 leverage! They must be drooling over the low margin requirements at the local futures exchange. It is obvious that they are doing this at the request of the SEC or Greenspan.
