The correct response is probably to get a direct interface and short using it. The process is way more simple and you'll always be submitting a limit order above the current bid.

I shorted LCOS yesterday which is something I can't imagine doing with a discount broker. With the direct interface, the risk for whipsaws was no different than going long.
