Hundred foot tsunami, no. As to earthquaker, we're built on solid rock to earthquake resistent standards. Our property is not low beach, rather we have a shingle beach and then a low "cliff" about 10 feet high up to the lawn, and a rise above that about 6 feet to where the house sits. So we're on the relative high ground. We figure anything up to about 25 feet is no sweat since it will break on the rocks out front of the beach.
My brother in law has a house on a low beach front lot where his house is only about 5 feet above high tide level and about 20 feet back from the water. Plus he's built on sandy soil. When the big one hits, his property is a goner.
Edit: And, keep in mind, we have no major blizzards to crush roofs, no tornados, no hurricanes, no floods. No place is completely immune from the anger of Ma nature, but we come as close as most. But nobody ever believes it will come in their lifetime. And so far, people have been right! (As they say: I intend to live forever. So far, so good.) |
