Competitive rail capacity under construction

Posted on OSM Yahoo message board

NUE will be building a rail mill (in AR, probably). With STLD building one, this will probably add up to about 1M tons/year of new rail capacity (which is bad when you think that U.S consumption is only about 1-1.2Mtons/year).
It will take NUE probably 1.5-2 years to get up to capacity. It will take STLD about 1-1.5 years.
What this means, in my opinion, is OSM has about 1 year to get back to full production AND cut costs to compete with NUE and STLD head on.
The good news, BS's rail mill will be the first to die (mid 2001). But if OSM doesn't make changes, RMSM dead by 2002.
Again just my opinion. (of course this is just a stupid scab talking..everyone who doesn't bow down to the USWA is a scab)
