Lynn: TYCO was on my watch list too mainly because an ex-poster here had tipped it to me in a PM. Since he also tipped EMC at $59 I figured he had some credibility. Anyway I was tempted to buy TCO at $39 but the "no smoke without fire" syndrome persuaded me not to. I know you post on the TYCO thread and will have seen my post about Michael Ashcroft one of the TYCO directors. The Press attacking him now in England is not the tabloid press, as JDN has supposed in his response, but the big boys and they usually win in the end.

Despite this I am impressed (a) that so many houses came out so strongly for TYCO after the news (b) that it is said to have invited the scrutiny of the SEC to clear its name and (c) rumours that it has been buying back shares in a big way.

Now if only I could get rid of the "no smoke without fire" syndrome or could believe that others will disregard it. As I understand it the houses recommend it based on the assumption that the valuations have not been doctored - but that is precisely what the SEC is looking at.

I would be interested to know what COMPAQ investors think of TYCO.
