I've been following here almost from the start.

It has bugged me from the beginning that even though the local police claim that they have several suspects, the only name that has hit the light of day is Jim's. Why???
The idea that they needed a "fall guy" is too pat and the fact that Yale would back them up when they have no proof or evidence that would stand up in court also doesn't fit. (I'm assuming no court evidence here or they would have already arrested Jim).

This all leads me to wonder who would or is benefitting from Jim's demise? i.e. Jim's loss of credibility and stature. It also leads me to think that whoever that would be is also a link somehow in this murder.
