Forbes: Bush And Gore Could Be Twins When It Comes To Tax Pledges.

In response to the above reports, Mr. Forbes made the following remarks:

"Governor Bush and Vice President Gore are singing in harmony when it comes to tax increases. Both seem to be willing to say that they will absolutely, positively not raise taxes, unless, of course, they want more of your money.

"Further, George W. Bush's record in Texas doesn't hold out much hope that he'll hold down spending in order to ward off tax increases. He's increased spending at almost twice the rate of the Clinton-Gore Administration - 36% vs 21% over the same period of time.

"Bush's senior advisor and chief strategist, Karl Rove, made it very clear that Governor Bush and Vice President Gore share the same values when it comes to tax increases. Taxes are the one issue where Republicans have historically drawn the line in the sand between the GOP and Democrats. To see that line blurred by the Republican frontrunner for the sake of political wiggle-room and worries over family history threaten our party's position as defender of the American Dream."
