Chuzzlewit,

I was wondering if you still were holding your short put position.I am in Canada so I cannot help you with the tax question, however, since you have a much lower cost basis from a long term hold, if you are assigned at higher price, it would adjust your cost up which would help your future tax bill. Does this make any sense?

I am still holding my position and have bought stock on the recent decline. I am considering just getting assigned @ 42 1/2. Also considering rolling forward in order to ease my cash flow.

I have been in this situation so many times in the last year (holding deep in the money puts) which is why I started closing positions when they were profitable, i.e. trading. Even a small profit is better than facing the prospect of assignment when the stock has made a big drop in price. When the initial position was opened the price seemed so reasonable...

Tyco may be one stock where it might be worth just getting assigned, since the longer term prospects are very good, it's just the immediate cash strain that creates a problem.

I am interested in your thoughts.

Fellowfool.
