I have to agree with your post. I have held Dell shares for two years and have an average per year gain of ~100% which is way more than I expected when I bought them. No matter what stock you hold you can always find another stock that has done better or worse.

When I look at some other stocks i.e. AMZN, I see a bunch of people playing musical chairs without any chairs. Others like CSCO, QCOM, JDSU, (good companies but IMO their current valuations are way ahead of themselves) at least have a chair or two in the game but when the music stops there will be alot of people left standing. Then there are these IPOs that jump several hundred percent on the first day, either the price was set way too low in the first place or somebody is holding overpriced paper.
