Good afternoon, Coug.
Since you are dissing my SUV, I would seriously like a recommendation as to a replacement vehicle. Last year I bought a (used) 1996 Land Rover Discovery for the following reasons:
1. My husband ran into a deer in his Saab, while I was a passenger in the back. The Saab, which is "moose-tested" (required in Sweden, they use a dummy, though) fared pretty well, except for broken glass, but I got scared, and wanted something "safe." Deer are a real problem here, I see dead deer along the roads I drive several times a week.
2. I drive on the infamous Beltway, a LOT, and like the feeling of lots of iron between me (and the kids) and the crazy interstate truckers.
3. Everyone in the family is tall ~ husband 6'2", kids are getting pretty tall, the older boy is 6', and I need something with lots of legroom in the back ~ for TWO long-legged boys. If it were just one, he could sit kind of sideways, but with two, they've got to be able to have legroom sitting up straight.
4. I do like to hike in the mountains, so need something that can occasionally handle a bumpy dirt road with potholes. I already know that a Volvo won't like the roads I have in mind, that's what I used to drive.
5. I haul stuff from time-to-time, like I make a big grocery run, or transport stuff for the garden, so it needs a big cargo area.
Please, tell me what I should drive. Actually, I am thinking about a Volvo wagon, and giving up on the bumpy dirt roads. |
