Talisman May Consider Selling Sudan Oil Assets, Paper Reports
Calgary, Alberta, Dec. 11 (Bloomberg) -- Talisman Energy Inc. said it may consider selling its stake in a controversial oil project in war-torn Sudan, the National Post reported. While the assets aren't for sale yet, the company will act in the best interests of shareholders and that may involve a sale at some point in the future, spokesman David Mann said. Calgary, Alberta- based Talisman owns a 25 percent stake in the Greater Nile Oil project, which started pumping oil earlier this year.
Talisman has been under scrutiny since October after human- rights organizations claimed the Sudanese government is using money from the oil project to wage war on its citizens and the company yesterday adopted an ethics code for doing business in other countries.
