FF, I will have to shoot over there and check out that panel discussion. There is a front page article in the NY Times today discussing patents on internet-related technnology. our very own Mr. Eichhorn is quoted "Its a a land grab out there" says the CEO of OMKT, an Internet software company that holds patents on several key building blocks of online stores. "Its not a surprise that these patents are being issued now. Its a wide open field and a lot of smart people have been looking to get patents as a strategic weapon or a strategic revenue opportunity." later a quote from Kevin G. Rivette, chairman of Aurigin Systems, an intellectual property management firm: "We will see some Internet companies become industry giants because they can exclude others from doing what they do, just as Xerox did."
