Desperating seeking the next "Hot Linux Stock" (HLS) long term relationship prefered~~~~~

IMHO the evaluation of "Hot Linux Stocks should be evaluating the trend between open-source programming and closed or copyrighted programming.

Is there a new trend developing similar to software development in 1990, World Wide Web 1995, E-Commerce 1998, Linux 2002?

The focus of one operating system verses another operating system is still limited to that particular operating system such as Linux or to Java applets. Either way a company is selling boxes of DOS software or boxes of Linux software or Java applets, each operating system has it's advantages and limitations.

A much broader vision in a commercial sense, is to be able to host, develop, manage all the operating source codes and facilitate collaboration of all the operating systems for truly open development This is an emerging trend. This was one of the founding visions of the World Wide Web. To create, develop and transmit data in an open community.

Not to say source programming should be free. I have been thinking about open source programming generating fees for services, licensing fees and royalties, verses revenues from product sales only.

Another trend with major corporations is the total-cost-of-ownership issue associated with licensing and deploying and maintaining major pieces of "off the shelf software". The cost of 10,000 software licenses adds up quickly.

If UPS can gain a competitive edge over Federal Express via paying for customized programming services rather than purchasing off the shelf software, will they, of course.

I am not suggesting that open source programming will replace MSFT software on the World's desktop. IMO the move away from *boxes of software* towards custom software will happen within big to medium sized corporations. Look at the second tier players on this list, IBM SUNW CPQ MOT CPQ

lwn.net

then look at the value of YHOO AMZN and EBAY that was created by a corporate knowledge and operating systems. YHOO AMZN and EBAY must stay up to the minute in their technology, or C ya later. If that means "Linux technolgy will they go Linux, of course. If the competition gains an advantage with open source programming will pay for customized programming services, of course.

Open source programming is a major trend in the "Linux Craze" that needs to be considered at this stage of the Linux Craze.

IMO this Linux craze is broader than one operating code verse another operating code.

have a good weekend!
