An unacceptable bug I encountered was that my phone got into a state, where it couldn't make any calls, even with full power strength. I had to let the battery to die to reset it.

I've used my Thinphone for over four months and have experienced one minor problem (it's even mentioned in the user manual). At certain times when using an additional battery, the phone will not turn off unless you pop the extended battery off and then turn the phone off. Other than that one minor inconvenience, I have experienced no poor or erratic behavior.

You may be too quick to blame the Thinphone for your problem. Many problems, including the one you mention above, could be faulty or poorly configured software in the base stations. Remember, digital phones do not operate in a vacuum, they interact with and are part of a larger network.
