Centura sizzles

"It's like a high school reunion" on Silicon Investor's Centura message boards, according to JatinK. Bolstered by some linux buzz and a deal with SAP, shares of Centura (CNTR: news, msgs) screamed up 58 percent during Friday's trading session. After enduring years of an avalanching stock price, shareholders came together to join in the celebration. See company profile

Shivram saw Friday as a turning point: "It's just a nice dream after the years of nightmares. All the hype is because of the press release with the word linux. I think the company's direction has changed a lot, and their focus on the embedded markets is going to be lucrative."

Over on Yahoo, investors, like Kaffads, were just as excited: "SAP news is big! Been with this stock for a few years now. This SAP-joint press release is bigtime! The exposure in this marketplace is/will continue to be gigantic for Centura." And Optimist took it one step further: "CNTR interface with Sap technology. Major businesses are more and more going to SAP, and the travel aspect of the palm pilot is the advanced stage of the laptop. See you at 10 Monday and 50 by June 2000."

Don't play the daytrading game with this one, advised HoustonTrader: "This stock should be held for at least six months! They have been in business for a number of years and have something worth buying ... They can deliver their product anywhere in the world. They know how to make money -- An Internet play that makes money?"

And, of course, a rampant rumor on Yahoo? Slowvok dropped this whisper: "Word on the Street -- CNTR may be in deal with Red Hat. Red Hat! This could be huge." Crazier things have happened.

Some good press coupled with a churning rumor mill kept the erstwhile vacant CNTR boards buzzing at full speed. Will the company be able to back up the hype? Monday will be pivotal as the Street has the whole weekend to digest CNTR's rocket ride.
