For real? You did better on verbal than math?

Oh my yes--- I did a LOT better on verbal and even better on Latin, which is certainly a useless achievement, but I have to boast when I can.
I scored so low on the Math that my Early Decision acceptance was conditional on my taking a remedial math course prior to matriculating. SO I attended Virginia Military Institute's summer school-- all male cadets--and had a FANTASTIC summer. The professor, Col. Somebody, called me Mr. Chappell the whole time, and every single day he looked surprised at this little high voice saying "Present". I had SOOooo many dates!!!! ANd I got a B in the course, though I don't even remember what the course was.

Both my boys did extremely well on the writing and verbal sections of the PSAT, and my theory is that this is because I read Pat the Bunny and Good Night Moon to them every night.
I remind them frequently that they owe their academic success in life to me.

I am willing to bet that high verbal scores correlate with being read to as children. And not just here and there, but nightly and with enjoyment. ANd lots of books around and parents who read with excitement.
