Here is Penelope Leach on spanking ~ I think that she makes a lot of good points against spanking, but I think it's interesting that something like 97% of parents in Britain have spanked their children, so it's not like we are in the minority if we do. I suppose I think it's interesting because when I think about spanking my children, I feel guilty, somewhat defeated, like if I were a good mother, I wouldn't feel like I "had" to spank, I'd have figured out a better way. I wonder if men who beat their wives think it's for the wife's own good.
