History

A new company resulting from the consolidation of Wharf Holding's (4) ISP and pay TV operations (Wharf Cable) in October 1999, i-Cable provides cable televison access to 430,000 households in addition to dial-up internet access for 70,000 subscribers. The company is close to providing broadband internet access through its cable network though competitors such as Cable and Wireless HKT (8) and perhaps Hutchison (13) are not far behind with alternative technologies.

The subsidiary has been losing money in part due to the cost of infrastructure investments. The most recent news is the November 24, 1999 IPO for the new combined operation.
