Tony, IMHO, PSII -

1. Runs Linux, thus can run Web browser
2. Has hard D
3. Has built in connectivity
4. NOT called a PC, thus won't scare people away
5. Word processing, spreadsheets or Quicken will just be some freebie give-me over the net.

I think this is the next $300PC and will sell HUGE !

I think everybody sees the market now and am thinking about ways to attack it. The Microsoft $300 PC is too little too late. This is not really a saftware game but a hardware game. The Intel integrated processor has more teeth, but still too far behind Sony. Too little graphics power and still have to pay money to Microsoft for OS.

I've talked to some guy who produces commercials, big presentations etc. He's seen the PSII demo. Said there was a scene where a Japanese girl walks towards the camera up close and then flirts to the camera. He said the girl was so life-like that he had a hard time telling that it was computer generated! (Dirty 'ole man he :)

If Sony i.e. Sony/Toshiba can yield the CPU/graphic ship, I think Sony has the marketing structure in place to sell many tens of M of units in '01 - absolutely no competition.

There's another sector that benefits if Sony can do that. The hard d sector is just swamped with capacity. If Sony can take up tens of M units capacity, the hard d sector may just recover. Perhaps Maxtor may make for a blue-bird investment here too.
