KERALA'S famed Technopark campus is poised for a record export turnover of Rs 1 billion in the current fiscal year, a four-fold jump in just two years, as it seeks rapid expansion.

"We have now reached a figure of Rs 75 crore ," said K G Satish Kumar, chief executive officer, Technopark, located on the outskirts of the city.

Business during this quarter had not been as good as expected because of the Y2K problem. Mr Kumar said: "We are confident of achieving the Rs 100 crore (export) turnover because normally all our units do well in the last quarter of every year."

It would be a remarkable performance for the high- technology hub, which earned Rs 55 crore in exports in 1998-99 and Rs 25 crore in 1997-98. Set up in 1993, the 160-acre sprawling campus houses 35 companies engaged in the software business. Twelve companies set up shop this year. ? IANS
