Vodafone to Double Stake in Korean Mobiles Company, Paper Says 12/12/99 3:00:00 AM Source: Bloomberg News London, Dec. 12 (Bloomberg) -- Vodafone Airtouch Plc., the world's largest telephone company, is about to invest 1.5 billion pounds ($2.43 billion) to double its stake in Shinsegi Telecom, a South Korean company with more than 3.2 million customers and a quarter of the domestic mobile phone market, the Sunday Telegraph said without citing sources. Vodafone's share in Shinsegi will be boosted from 11.7 percent to 28.3 percent and it will share management control with Posco, an iron and steel company and Shinsegi's largest shareholder, the newspaper said. The agreement demonstrates Vodafone's commitment to the pledge it made to investors that it would pursue ventures beyond its $148 billion bid for Mannesmann AG, Germany's biggest mobile phone company, the newspaper said.
